Charcoal rot of sorghum caused by the fungus Macrophomina phaseolina is a root & stalk rot disease of great destructive potential in most sorghum glowing regions. Improved, high yielding cultivars under great management tends to be very susceptible to the disease. M.phaseolina is a common soil borne, non aggressive and plurevourous pathogen that attacks plants. Whose vigor has been reduced by unfavorable growing conditions. Drought stress is the primary factor that pre disposes sorghum to charcoal rot. In decreased rots & stalk control by fungicides are briefly discussed. Different methods like poison food technique in vitro & Soil. Drenching in vivo have been adopted with different fungicides & it was found that Bravistin & Topsin M at lower concentration (15 to 25 ppm) checked the growth of fungus completely.
